The Vienna Zoo bid farewell this week to its star attraction. Baby panda bear FuHu was born in Austria two years ago to panda pair Yangyang and Longhui this was Fuhu’s long-awaited return to Mainland China. His parents are on loan to Austria from China. Some 20 pandas have been on loan to nine zoos around the world.
All pandas remain the property of China, and are cared for by the state-funded China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. Offspring are returned to China to help build the population of this endangered species.
While his homecoming is good news for the global panda population, there are many Viennese saddened by his departure. Who wouldn’t miss this baby?
